Noravank is the generalized name for the monastic complex, built in the 13th-14th cc. It is located 3 km North-East of Amaghu village of Vayots Dzor region.
Noravank was built by bishop Hovhannes.
During the following two centuries Noravank was expended due the efforts of Orbelyan dynasty, which ruled Syunik region at that time, and became cultural and educational center, as well as Orbelyan ancestral crypt.
Noravank consists of St. Karapet, St. Grigory the Illuminator churches and St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) two-storey church, which is notable for its ideal constructive and sculptural work.
There are lots of valuable khachkars in the garden, surrounded by the fortress walls. The most prominent ones are: a khachkar by Momik on memory of Duke Tarsaich from Tamta Khatun, and a khachqar, dedicated to Burtel and his son Ivane (it was found in 1982-83), which has the illustrations of Jesus Christ and his 12 disciples on both sides on the upper part.

    The jewel of medieval architecture

I remember the first time when i took my friends from Australia who travelled a lot around the world to Noravank. What I mean is starting from the moment you turn from the main highway towards Noravank the stunning beauty of the nature takes you breath away - even the experienced travellers attest to this. Recently the Noravank surroundings have become the favourite spot for hiking lovers from all over the globe - have you ever seen such splendid rocks anywhere else? I don’t think so. But wait until you spot the monastery complex from afar! That’s not it yet- wait until the early sunset when you experience the most fabulous color fusion of the Nature! If you love peaceful and picturesque nature than come to Noravank from late April to laye October, bring your friends and a tent with a sleeping bag and stay here - this will be the best experience of uour lifetime!
