Haghartsin is a 10th-century monastery located near the town of Dilijan in the Tavush Province of Armenia. It was built between the 10th and 13th centuries (in the 12th under Khachatur of Taron); much of it under the patronage of the Bagratuni Dynasty.
The composition of the monastery includes: 3 churches, 2 parishes (1 is destroyed), refectory, chapels, khachkars (cross-stones). The oldest is St. Gregory’s church (about X century); domed structure with 4 apses; crossed inside, rectangular outside.
In 1281 with the support of virtues father Hovhannes and father Sargis the main church of the complex was restored: St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Virgin) church (founded supposedly in the 10-11th century). The church has domed hall with a pair of pylons; there are “Armenian holes” (narrow crevices like one for windows) on the fronts of the church (except Western one ). High drum of the dome is decorated with an arcade; portals of Southern and Western doors are characteristic to the 13th century. Two ktitors on the Eastern front keep the monastery mock in their hands.
The refectory of Haghardzin, built by the architect Minas in 1248, is divided by pillars into two square-plan parts roofed with intersecting arches.

    The pearl of Tavush region

Haghartsin is a very beautiful place with so many hidden mysteties, the monastery comlpex itself is splendid and every time you visit the place you discover new layers of history. The place is so peacful and the surrounding nature is so lush , especially in May and June , that you never want to leave it. But most of all I love Haghartsin in October, when among the firework of colors of green-and-red-and-orange-and-purpule mountains you see spot the noble silouhette of the monastery
